Melissa Ann makes things. One Christmas in 1984, she was given her first embroidery kit by her grandmother and has been making fiber art ever since.
Over the years Melissa taught herself a hodgepodge of craft mediums. Through trial and error, she discovered her love of fiber art. She now creates fun, retro, and sometimes unusual items using various craft methods, including crochet, hand sewing, embroidery, cross-stitch, and most recently weaving.
A huge animal welfare supporter, Melissa tries to seek out craft supplies that are not made from animal products. She mostly crafts with Eco-fi felt, which is made from recycled plastic bottles, and acrylic yarn.
Melissa finds her project inspiration in a variety of things: library books, vintage magazines, and photographs, but most often, she finds it in pop culture. Music, movies, and TV inspires her every day, especially retro pop culture. She is a child of the ’80s, so she is greatly inspired by the sights and sounds of the ’70s and ’80s.
Melissa’s work has been featured in several craft magazines, including Interweave, and a craft compilation from F+W Media.

Who’s That Girl?
- Melissa Ann is a HUGE ’80s fan and has a knack for knowing the year that a song, album, or movie was released in the ’80s. She would make a good “dial a friend” option for ’80s trivia.
- She is a Christian and takes her faith very seriously.
- She has been to Walt Disney World well over 100 times.
- And also sang in the Christmas Candlelight Processional, when it was still held at the Magic Kingdom. It was one of the coolest things she has ever done.
- She loves to play board games and video games. Centipede was her jam back in the day. She used to play every morning before school.
- While in the Girl Scouts, she had to compete in a pie eating contest. To this day she cannot even look at a cherry pie without getting sick to her stomach.
- She once swam with sharks in the Florida Keys. Did you notice she only said ONCE?!
- She probably says “awesome” a hundred times a day.
- She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, but she started out as a music major.
- Melissa Ann loves tea! She hates coffee. Boba tea is her latest obsession.
